Brazil's Neymar sidelined for World Cup opener against Morocco
Brazil forward Neymar, 34, is still recovering from a calf injury and will miss the team's opening FIFA World Cup group‑stage match against Morocco. Coach Carlo Ancelotti said the striker is working hard to return but is not yet fit for the June 13 game and may miss the entire group phase. Neymar has also missed Brazil's warm‑up fixtures and recent training sessions in the United States.
Morocco's coach Mohamed Ouahbi said his side prepared for both scenarios and the absence of the superstar will not alter their plans. Morocco captain Achraf Hakimi expressed disappointment at not facing one of football’s biggest stars. Brazil still faces Haiti on June 20 and Scotland on June 24, with Ancelotti hoping the veteran can join the squad later in the tournament.
