Brazil's NR-1 regulation mandates management of psychosocial risks
New updates to Brazil's Regulatory Standard No. 1 (NR-1) now explicitly require organizations to consider psychosocial risks within their Occupational Risk Management (GRO) processes. This is particularly relevant for the telecommunications sector, where diverse work environments—ranging from field technical teams and customer service centers to remote workers—create varied occupational exposures.
To comply, companies must implement a Risk Management Program (PGR) consisting of an Occupational Risk Inventory and an Action Plan. Experts warn that many organizations struggle with the methodological implementation of these requirements, often confusing simple survey results with true psychosocial diagnoses. Effective management requires moving beyond questionnaires to analyze behavioral indicators such as turnover, absenteeism, and communication failures to understand the underlying causes of organizational stress.
