Brazil's Paraná fire department says motorcycles cause nearly 70% of traffic accidents
The Corpo de Bombeiros Militar do Paraná (CBMPR) reported that of the 24,819 traffic accidents it responded to in 2026, 17,062 involved motorcycles, representing roughly seven in ten incidents. The agency highlighted the importance of defensive driving and the use of certified helmets, gloves and appropriate clothing to lower injury severity.

The regulation requires electric bike, scooter and similar vehicle users to wear helmets, use reflective clothing at night, and operate their devices within set speed limits: up to 20 km/h on bike lanes, 15 km/h in shared pedestrian zones, 25 km/h on authorized urban streets, with a minimum speed of 6 km/h where safety permits. Vehicles must also have functional brakes, a bell, reflective markers and white front/red rear lights for night travel. The law bars these devices from bike lanes where national rules prohibit them and assigns enforcement to municipal traffic agents and the military police.
