Brazil's PASCOM Holds 9th National Meeting in Aparecida
The Pastoral da Comunicação (PASCOM) of the Brazilian Catholic Church convened its 9th National Meeting at the National Sanctuary of Aparecida, São Paulo, gathering roughly 1,500 communicators from all regions of Brazil. The event combined spiritual celebrations, formation sessions and strategic discussions aimed at advancing the Church’s evangelization mission through modern communication.
Key moments included a conference by Paolo Ruffini, prefect of the Dicastery for the Communication of the Holy See, on the challenges posed by new technologies and artificial intelligence, as well as talks by priest Josileudo Queiroz, specialist Heloísa Fraga, and semiótica expert Marcello Zanluchi. Bishops Dom Valdir José de Castro, Dom Edilson Soares Nobre and Dom Amilton Manoel da Silva attended, underscoring the importance of communication in pastoral work.
During the assembly, the national coordination team was re‑elected: Janaína Gonçalves continued as coordinator, Alex Ferreira as secretary and Edite Neves was appointed vice‑coordinator. Participants highlighted the need to place the human person at the centre of communication and to leverage new tools for evangelization.
