Brazil's PGR rejects US election interference probe

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) has rejected a request from the Attorney General's Office (AGU) to investigate alleged United States interference in Brazilian elections. PGR Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet archived the request, stating there were insufficient minimum elements to justify an investigation based on the provided information. The AGU's request was based on a report suggesting the Donald Trump administration allocated US$ 1 million to fund a project opposing the actions of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court (STF).

While the PGR declined to act, the Federal Police (PF) has decided to move forward with an inquiry. PF Director-General Andrei Rodrigues confirmed that the Police Intelligence Directorate has opened an investigation to examine the allegations. This follows search and seizure warrants executed by agents in connection with the case. The PF is also looking into information regarding a possible attack received from the United States Embassy in Brasília.
