Brazil's post‑pandemic shift in home design emphasizes wellbeing
In Brazil, the perception of residential spaces is changing after the pandemic. Psychologist Maria Klien argues that uniform, identity‑less architecture reduces emotional attachment to homes and public places, while research published in Scientific Reports links pleasant environments to better self‑reported health.
A new IKEA‑commissioned Life at Home Report 2024 surveyed 38,630 adults across 39 countries. It found that 36% of respondents consider feeling pleasure at home important, yet many rarely experience it. The study highlights that modern housing is increasingly valued for its ability to restore energy, reduce friction, and promote rest, shifting focus from purely aesthetic decoration to emotional performance. This “wellness real estate” trend is influencing Brazil’s real‑estate market, with developers and designers emphasizing comfort, light, acoustics, and personalization.
