Brazil's Power Sector Advances with New Transmission Technology and Regulatory Relief

ISA ENERGIA BRASIL became the first company in Brazil to install automatic splicing devices on a 138 kV transmission line between Euclides da Cunha and São João da Boa Vista in São Paulo state. The technology, supplied by MacLean Power Systems, cuts connection time from about 40 minutes to roughly five minutes, improving operational resilience and reducing field crew exposure.

The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) approved a new “day of forgiveness” that lets unviable generating plants cancel transmission use contracts without fines. The measure addresses distortions caused by recent legislative changes and could waive up to R$3.5 billion in contractual penalties, aiming to free transmission capacity and lower systemic default risk.
