Brazil's press confronts AI-fuelled disinformation and judicial harassment

Journalist Hélio Gama Neto, director of communication for Brazil’s National Association of Newspapers, warned that the sector faces an escalating wave of judicial harassment and AI‑generated misinformation. He highlighted recent Supreme Court rulings that curb “judicial harassment” and urged publishers to unite through bodies such as Aner, ANJ and Reporters Without Borders to protect editorial independence. Neto also stressed that the speed of social‑media platforms cannot be matched by newsrooms, and that investment in methodical, transparent journalism is the antidote to fake‑news, deepfakes and algorithm‑driven hostility.

In a parallel commentary, veteran press‑relations specialist Vera Lucia Rodrigues explained that effective media outreach is not a miracle but a disciplined process built on credible information, ethical relationships and strategic alignment with clients. She argued that journalists and assessors must collaborate closely, respecting editorial timing and standards, to turn raw data into newsworthy stories that sustain public trust.
