Brazil's private pension sector draws focus as reforms and corporate benefits expand

The Associação Brasileira de Entidades de Previdência Complementar (Abrapp) has been highlighted in recent media for its analyses of Brazil's complementary pension system. A study prepared with the Confederação Nacional das Seguradoras and Fenaprevi, to be released in September, proposes reorganizing the pension model into four pillars and urges treating pension as a strategic public‑policy tool, a view voiced by Abrapp director‑president Devanir Silva.

Abrapp also released research on “micropensions” that draws on experiences from China, India, Kenya, Chile, Mexico and Colombia to suggest ways to formalize pension coverage for platform workers in Brazil. Meanwhile, Bradesco Vida e Previdência’s superintendente Maria Izabel Pedrosa highlighted the rapid growth of closed‑group pension plans, now managing about R$1.3 trillion in assets, and described their use by companies as a strategic benefit for talent attraction, retention and financial education.

Together, the reports show a push to broaden private pension participation, address low uptake among Brazilians, and position pension schemes as a cornerstone of long‑term financial security and economic development.
