Brazil's public blood banks in Mato Grosso and Alagoas urge donors amid critical shortages

In Mato Grosso, the state’s public blood bank MT Hemocentro released its July collection calendar, organizing mobile drives in Cuiabá and the interior towns of Alto Garças, Campo Novo do Parecis, Conquista d’Oeste, Mirassol d’Oeste and Vera. Director Fernando Henrique Modolo warned that type O‑negative is “in a state of attention” because of low supplies and called on residents to donate to keep the stock replenished. The centre listed the dates, venues and donor requirements (age 16‑69, weight ≥ 50 kg, identification, health criteria).\n\nIn Alagoas, the state blood centre Hemoal announced that its inventory had dropped to just 27.71% of the minimum needed, with only 97 units available versus a daily requirement of 350. Director Verônica Guedes appealed to Alagoas citizens, noting the shortfall after the June festivities, and urged donations to stabilise the supply. Fixed collection points operate in Maceió (Unidade Via Expressa and Unidade Trapiche) and in Arapiraca (Unidade Eldorado), with identical eligibility rules as outlined by the Ministry of Health.
