Brazil's public legal aid and digital registry platform see record demand

The Defensoria Pública of the Federal District (DPDF) reported more than 390,000 assistance cases in the first half of 2026, averaging about 65,000 cases per month across 39 service centers. The surge highlighted the need for better facilities and funding, prompting public defender Reinaldo Rossano to stress that “the increase shows the size of the responsibility of the DPDF with the most vulnerable population. Approval of PELO 21 is essential to continue growing, expanding access to justice and ensuring dignified service.”

At the same time, Brazil’s National Justice Council (CNJ) launched the “Meu Registro” online platform, which integrates civil, property and title registration services nationwide. In under a month the portal processed 472,732 document requests, completing 288,540 (61 %) of them. The system lets citizens, lawyers and public agencies request multiple public records from different states in a single transaction, reducing time, travel and cost while maintaining security through official digital authentication methods.
