Brazil's Rádio Nacional launches archive‑gathering campaign for 90th anniversary

Rádio Nacional, the public broadcaster owned by Empresa Brasil de Comunicação (EBC), will begin a campaign on 1 June to collect historic material from listeners, former staff and collectors. Announced at the National Public Communication Network meeting in Rio de Janeiro on 18 April, the initiative is part of the station’s 90‑year celebration.

The call invites the public to submit audio recordings, old programmes, jingles, interviews, soundtracks, photographs, documents and other items that relate directly to Rádio Nacional’s history. Submissions are to be sent by e‑mail to a dedicated address, after which contributors receive a donation‑intent form.

EBC’s executive radio manager Thiago Regotto said the project “aims to fill gaps and tell our story from the records we manage to gather.” Archive manager Maria Carnevale called the effort “a watershed for the collection, allowing third‑party holders to help protect and preserve the national heritage.” Accepted material may be incorporated into the station’s historical archive, displayed in a commemorative exhibition and featured in special programming for the 90th‑anniversary broadcasts.
