Brazil's Receita Federal to adopt periodic public contests for auditor-fiscal hiring

The Federal Revenue Service (Receita Federal) is advocating for regular public contests to gradually replenish its staff, especially auditor‑fiscal positions. Subsecretary of Corporate Management Juliano Brito da Justa Neves said a study by the Ministry of Management and Innovation identified a need for 650 new auditors in the central office, but only 30 auditor‑fiscal vacancies were authorized for the upcoming contest due to electoral‑year restrictions. The government also approved 116 analyst‑tributary posts, bringing the total to 146 new positions. The Sindifisco Nacional union pressed the agency to increase auditor‑fiscal slots, arguing that the current 30 vacancies are insufficient to address a long‑standing deficit that has fallen from 12,158 auditors in 2012 to 7,733 in 2021. The administration views periodic contests as the best path to reduce the staffing shortfall while preserving senior auditors. The contest, already authorized by the Ministry of Management and Innovation, is expected to have its edital published by January 2027.
