Brazil's Regional Electoral Courts Conduct Nationwide Test of Electronic Voting Machines

The Regional Electoral Courts of Pernambuco (TRE‑PE) and Alagoas (TRE‑AL) are participating in the 18th Simulado Nacional de Hardware, a nationwide simulation organized by the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE). From June 29 to July 16, TRE‑PE mobilised about 100 staff to test 776 voting machines of the 2013, 2015, 2020 and 2022 models at the Centro Administrativo Eleitoral in Recife, evaluating 27 technical parameters and transmitting results to the TSE. TRE‑AL will test 228 machines—representing roughly 6 % of the UE2013 model and 2.5 % of newer models—by running at least 100 voter registrations per device, with some models required to complete 450 registrations. The simulation aims to verify the functionality, security and reliability of the equipment ahead of the 2026 elections, identifying any operational issues and ensuring compliance with technical standards.
