Brazil's June Green Campaign Boosts Environmental Education in Schools and Communities

Across Brazil, the nationwide "Junho Verde" (June Green) campaign is promoting environmental awareness through a series of cultural and educational activities. The Museu do Pontal in Rio de Janeiro hosts the fourth edition of the event from June 6‑14, featuring workshops on mini‑jungle gardening, recycled musical instruments, ocean‑focused storytelling, yoga for sustainability, and a show by Bethi Albano. The program is supported by Repsol Sinopec Brazil and links to the UNESCO‑backed "Ecos do Amanhã" project.

In Apucarana, Paraná, municipal schools staged the theatre piece "A Fabulosa Jornada dos Guardiões Verdes" at Unespar, part of the campaign’s effort to reach public‑school students with interactive lessons on waste reduction, tree planting and water‑source protection. Mayor Rodolfo Mota and the municipal environment secretary highlighted the importance of early environmental education.

The town of Itatiaia conducted a composting workshop, teaching residents to convert organic waste into natural fertilizer using a three‑bucket system, encouraging household waste reduction. In Bento Gonçalves, 90 state‑school students received "Agentes Ecológicos Mirins" cards after completing an eight‑hour training on waste sorting, recycling, and environmental stewardship, reinforcing community‑wide ecological responsibility.
