Elgin, São Paulo FC and GSH Blood Bank launch major citywide blood donation drive
Elgin partnered with São Paulo FC and the GSH Blood Bank in São Paulo to run a free public blood‑donation campaign on 27 June, operating from 07:00 to 18:00 at the hospital’s blood‑bank facility. The event offered donors health screening, incentives such as personalized stickers and Elgin gifts, and featured the club’s mascot to attract participants.
In parallel, Santa Casa de Araraquara held a training session on safe use of hemocomponents, reinforcing best practices for transfusion and encouraging voluntary blood donation. At the national level, a Senate hearing highlighted regional disparities in access to hemophilia treatments, calling for expanded rehabilitation, psychosocial support and inclusion of hemophilia in the rare‑diseases policy.
The same period saw the Hospital Ferreira Machado perform a sixth organ‑retrieval operation, providing a heart, liver, kidneys and corneas to six patients on the national transplant waiting list. Legal experts also clarified that Brazilian law does not permit hospitals to condition medical care on relatives donating blood.
Separately, the Lions Club donated a US$ 213 888 RetCam Envision imaging system to the Hospital de Amor, enhancing early diagnosis of retinoblastoma and retinopathy of prematurity. All initiatives aim to strengthen Brazil’s health‑care resources through voluntary donation and improved patient support.
