Brazil's Smart City Events Emphasize Social Innovation and Municipal Partnerships

At the Connected Smart Cities (CSC) Regional Strategic Meeting 2026 in Criciúma, Shirlei Monteiro, executive director of the non‑profit Abadeus, argued that smart‑city initiatives must reach vulnerable populations. She highlighted Abadeus' track record of supporting over 320,000 people, creating 12,000 jobs, and training 6,000 individuals, stressing that social innovation should be a core element of urban policy and planning.

A week later, Londrina hosted the national Forum Londrina Cidades Inteligentes, organized by the local Companhia de Tecnologia e Desenvolvimento (CTD). The event gathered municipal leaders, private‑sector CEOs and researchers, including Vitória’s CDTIV director Jairo Siqueira, Necta CEO Paula Faria, Bright Cities CEO Raquel Cardamone and Instituto iCities president Juliana Palácios. Mayor Tiago Amaral presented the Londrina ON platform, which has attracted more than 12,000 users. The forum concluded with a protocol of intent between CTD and Vitória’s CDTIV, aiming to replicate Vitória’s top‑ranked smart‑city model across other Brazilian municipalities.
