Brazil probes financing of Bolsonaro biopic 'Dark Horse

The Supreme Court (STF) and Federal Police have opened parallel investigations into the funding of the biographical film “Dark Horse,” which depicts former president Jair Bolsonaro. STF minister André Mendonça forwarded a crime‑report to the Prosecutor‑General’s Office (PGR) seeking a probe into alleged links between parliamentary amendments, private donors and the film’s production. The Federal Police, acting on a request by deputy Tabata Amaral, launched an inquest into whether five Liberal Party (PL) deputies diverted roughly 4.6 million reais in parliamentary amendments to NGOs and companies controlled by producer Karina Ferreira da Gama, including Instituto Conhecer Brasil and Academia Nacional de Cultura.

The inquiry also examines possible connections to the Master bank scandal, specifically the involvement of ex‑banker Daniel Vorcaro and whether funds were used to support Eduardo Bolsonaro’s residence in the United States. Additional allegations link Senator Flávio Bolsonaro to the financing and suggest a broader “ecosystem” of inter‑connected entities. The investigations are conducted under secrecy level 3, limiting access to case details, and remain ongoing.
