Brazil's STJ Schedules Hearing on Returning Nardoni and Jatobá to Prison Regime

The Superior Tribunal de Justiça (STJ) has set a virtual session for the Fifth Panel, to be held between 27 August and 2 September 2026, to consider a petition that seeks to revert Alexandre Nardoni and Anna Carolina Jatobá to a closed‑prison regime. The request was filed by the Associação do Orgulho LGBTQIAPN+, whose president, state deputy Agripino Magalhães Júnior, argues that the convicts may be violating conditions of their open‑regime sentences, citing doubts about Nardoni’s work routine, travel times, and the address registered with the courts, as well as reports from residents of São Paulo and Barueri.

The petition does not aim to overturn the murder conviction for the 2008 death of Isabella Nardoni; it solely addresses compliance with the rules governing the open‑regime. Minister Ribeiro Dantas will act as the relator for the case.
