Brazil's TCU approves Central Bank 2025 accounts

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has approved the Central Bank's accounts for the 2025 fiscal year. The decision, made by the Court's Second Chamber under rapporteur Minister Jorge Oliveira, grants full discharge to nine managers, including Central Bank President Gabriel Galípolo.

The approval follows a one-week suspension of the judgment requested by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the TCU (MPTCU). The suspension was initially prompted by concerns that investigations into the extrajudicial liquidation of Banco Master could impact the evaluation of the Central Bank's management.

However, Minister Jorge Oliveira resumed the analysis, determining that the annual accounts should be examined based on the specific elements of the current process. The technical analysis from the Specialized Audit Unit for Public Banks and Financial Regulators (AudBancos) had previously recommended approval, finding no irregularities capable of compromising the regularity of the accounts.

While the annual accounts process is now closed, the TCU clarified that this decision does not validate all actions taken by the monetary authority regarding Banco Master. The investigation into the Central Bank's role in the liquidation of Banco Master remains active in a separate proceeding.
