Brazil's AI‑driven data‑center boom spurs trillion‑real tech investment and talent crunch

A sector report projects Brazil will attract about R$ 2 trillion in technology investments through 2029, with the bulk aimed at cloud computing (R$ 765.6 bn) and generative artificial intelligence (R$ 736.6 bn). The surge in AI and cloud services is driving demand for large‑scale data‑center facilities, turning them into a new frontier for real‑estate development. Brazil already hosts roughly 48 % of Latin America’s operational data‑center capacity, with key sites concentrated in Barueri, Alphaville, Campinas and Fortaleza, while other regions such as the South are gaining interest.

At the same time, companies across the country are confronting a severe shortage of qualified technology professionals. Industry estimates indicate a need for about 797 000 new tech workers by 2025, yet the education system produces only around 53 000 graduates each year. Vacancies requiring AI expertise have risen 65 % year‑on‑year, and 39 % of executives say talent gaps are delaying AI projects. The shortage is forcing firms to reshuffle schedules, reallocate tasks and, in some cases, postpone digital‑transformation initiatives.

The combined effect of massive infrastructure investment and a tightening labour market is reshaping Brazil’s digital economy, influencing everything from real‑estate financing to the adoption of AI tools in sectors such as finance and manufacturing.
