Brazil's Tesouro Direto records second‑largest June sales FAST-MOVING

The Treasury Direct program (Tesouro Direto) sold R$14.76 billion of government bonds to individual investors in June 2024, the second‑largest monthly total in its history and only R$30 million shy of the March record of R$14.79 billion. Sales rose 44.51 % from May’s R$10.22 billion and 156.03 % compared with June 2023.

The new Tesouro Reserva title contributed R$2.09 billion (14.2 % of total sales). Basic rate‑linked securities accounted for 54.5 % of the volume, with Letras Financeiras do Tesouro (LFT) delivering R$4.16 billion (28.2 %). Inflation‑linked papers made up 34.3 % and pre‑fixed issues 16.7 %. The Tesouro Renda+ and Tesouro Educa+ products together represented about 6.6 % of sales.

Total Tesouro Direto holdings at the end of June reached R$262.47 billion, up 4.57 % month‑over‑month and 45.53 % year‑over‑year. Net issuance for the month was R$10.1 billion, the highest in the series, as new purchases outpaced redemptions. Over 1.5 million individual operations were recorded, with an average size of roughly R$9,600; half of all trades were for amounts of R$1,000 or less.
