Brazil's transformation industry records near‑flat growth as high interest rates curb investment

In the first quarter of 2026 Brazil's transformation industry expanded by just 0.1%, indicating a virtually stable output level. The modest gain occurred despite the broader economy posting a 1.1% GDP rise.

High interest rates and costly credit have limited new investment in new machinery and plant expansion. Companies are therefore concentrating on improving efficiency of existing assets, emphasizing preventive and predictive maintenance of critical equipment such as gearboxes, motors and couplings.

Analysts note that the sector’s near‑flat performance reflects the tight financial environment, prompting managers to prioritize waste reduction, asset reliability and cost control to sustain productivity.
