Brazil Electoral Court Suspends Flavio Bolsonaro Poll

Minister Kassio Nunes Marques, president of the Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE), issued a monocratic ruling suspending the AtlasIntel poll that showed a decline in support for Flavio Bolsonaro ahead of the 2024 elections. The suspension was requested by Bolsonaro’s campaign and the Liberal Party, citing methodological contamination after the questionnaire included questions about the Banco Master scandal involving banker Daniel Vorcaro.

TSE minister Estela Aranha placed the case on a hold, requesting additional time to review the decision. The move has sparked a broader debate over electoral censorship, the limits of judicial oversight of opinion polls, and the right of voters to access information. Lawmakers, journalists and political analysts warn that the ruling could set a precedent affecting future surveys and campaign dynamics.

Amid concerns about potential partisanship within the TSE, the Supreme Federal Court has indicated it may intervene, scrutinising whether the court’s actions unduly favor the Bolsonaro-aligned officials who also voted in related high‑profile cases.
