Brazil's TV Globo cuts Coração Acelerado, speeds up Por Você launch

TV Globo announced it will end the telenovela Coração Acelerado on 7 August, three weeks earlier than the schedule that would have taken it to 197 episodes. The drama, which began in January and had an average rating of 19.3 points in Greater São Paulo, failed to meet audience expectations despite a modest recent recovery.

The decision follows accelerated production of the next 7 p.m. novela Por Você, starring Sheron Menezzes, which is now slated to debut earlier in the second‑semester lineup. Globo had previously asked authors Izabel de Oliveira and Maria Helena Nascimento to extend Coração Acelerado by three weeks, but cancelled the plan after internal viewer research highlighted criticisms of pacing and after Por Você’s early chapters were completed ahead of schedule. The programming shift aims to boost ratings and advertising revenue in the crucial 19h slot.
