Brazil's Vivo and Claro add AI assistants and cloud storage to internet plans

Telecom operators in Brazil are expanding their broadband and mobile packages with artificial‑intelligence assistants and cloud‑storage services. Vivo, led by president Christian Gebara, will offer Google’s Gemini AI Plus free for up to a year together with 400 GB of cloud storage to eligible customers, following earlier trials with Perplexity Pro. The company sees the move as a way to become a distribution platform for OTT‑style digital services, earning a share of revenue from each app sold. In the past 12 months, Vivo’s digital‑service revenue reached R$ 890 million, a 25.7 % year‑on‑year increase, with 4.9 million customers already paying for streaming bundles. Competitor Claro is also rolling out similar AI‑assistant and cloud offerings in its plans, aiming to boost customer loyalty and generate new income streams.
