BRD employees announce warning strike over labor contract

Employees of BRD Groupe Société Générale, represented by the Impact Union, have announced a warning strike scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 15:00 to 17:00. The action follows the failure of legal negotiation and conciliation stages regarding a new Collective Labor Agreement. The union reported that over 95% of the approximately 2,200 employees consulted rejected the bank's latest offer.

Key union demands include maintaining existing rights, increasing salaries for those earning less than 6,500 lei gross, increasing meal ticket values, and maintaining vacation vouchers. They also seek protections regarding severance pay and meal breaks in understaffed units.

The labor dispute occurs despite strong financial performance for the bank. In the first half of 2026, BRD reported a net profit of 784 million lei and a 17% ROE. However, the union highlighted that the number of active employees decreased from 4,965 at the end of 2025 to 4,641 by June 30, 2026, while personnel expenses fell by 8.3% during the same period. The union argues that staff reductions and increased commercial pressure are driving organizational tension.
