BRD expands RoPay instant payment features in YOU BRD app

BRD Groupe Société Générale announced that its RoPay service has been extended within the YOU BRD mobile‑banking application. Customers – both private individuals and authorized persons (PFA) – can now make instant payments to merchants and service providers by scanning QR codes, without entering card details. The new functionality covers in‑store purchases, online checkout and bill payments, with funds transferred 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the TRANSFOND instant‑payment infrastructure, in Romanian lei and without fees for the payer. RoPay has offered person‑to‑person instant transfers via QR codes since 2024; the latest rollout adds merchant‑facing QR payments and static QR codes at points of sale. "The extension of RoPay functionalities represents a new step in BRD’s strategy to provide simple, fast and secure payment experiences," said Mădălina Teodorescu, Deputy General Manager of Retail Banking at BRD.
