BRDE presents Paraná biodiversity credit model at COP17 forum

The Regional Development Bank of the Far South (BRDE) showcased its innovative biodiversity credit market initiative from Paraná, Brazil, at the COP17 Business and Biodiversity Forum in Yerevan, Armenia.

Developed in partnership with the Government of Paraná and the LIFE Institute, the pilot project aims to create economic incentives for conservation. The initiative allocates up to R$ 2 million for the acquisition of credits generated by the conservation of Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs), subject to independent verification of environmental results. Seven reserves have been selected to participate in the project.

The presentation occurred during an international panel focused on mobilizing capital for conservation to meet the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. This framework seeks to mobilize at least US$ 200 billion annually for ecosystem protection and recovery by 2030.
