Breast cancer awareness: debunking myths and dietary prevention

Medical experts and health organizations are highlighting key facts and preventative measures regarding breast cancer. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 80 percent of breast cancer cases occur in women without specific risk factors other than age and gender. This contradicts the common myth that the disease only affects those with a family history, although genetic mutations like BRCA1 and BRCA2 can significantly increase risk.

Regarding prevention, medical professionals emphasize that while no single food can guarantee immunity, a balanced diet is essential for managing lifestyle-related risk factors. Recommendations include increasing intake of high-fiber foods—such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grains—to support digestion and weight management. Maintaining a healthy weight is particularly important for postmenopausal women. Additionally, consuming low-fat protein sources is advised to support overall bodily health.
