Breast cancer awareness initiatives launched in California

In observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, health organizations in California are emphasizing the importance of early detection and survivor support.

At City of Hope Orange County in Irvine, medical staff held an event to honor two dozen breast cancer survivors, presenting them with pink bomber jackets as part of the ‘Be a Voice of Hope’ initiative. The ceremony highlighted the resilience of survivors, noting that while one in seven women in Orange County will be diagnosed with breast cancer, advances in precision medicine and screening have pushed survival rates above 90%.

Concurrently, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services is promoting regular screenings. Health officials recommend that women between the ages of 40 and 74 at average risk receive a mammogram every two years. The department noted that early detection through mammograms makes the disease easier to treat and advised individuals to consult doctors regarding symptoms such as new lumps, skin dimpling, or nipple changes.
