Breast Cancer Awareness: Regional Initiatives and New Therapies

Throughout October, various regions in the Balkans are conducting campaigns to raise awareness for breast cancer prevention and early detection. In Serbia, new innovative therapies for certain types of breast cancer, including metastatic stages, have become available at the expense of the state as of October 1. Medical experts emphasize that early detection through mammography and ultrasound can lead to a 90-95% cure rate.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, organizations like Think Pink are working with partners such as Grand kafa to provide access to preventive screenings and education. Similarly, in Mostar, the Novi Pogled Association has implemented online registration for mammography to simplify the process for women.

In North Macedonia, a multidisciplinary breast clinic has been established at the Clinical Hospital in Štip to provide coordinated care. Additionally, free ultrasound screenings are being organized in Skopje and Bitola. Across the region, health officials and advocacy groups continue to stress the importance of monthly self-examinations and regular clinical check-ups to reduce mortality rates.
