Breast cancer awareness talk held at Biblioteca Sarmiento
A community awareness talk regarding the prevention and treatment of breast cancer was held at the Biblioteca Sarmiento. Organized by the Hospital's Oncology service with support from the Municipal Health Directorate, the event featured presentations by Dr. Elena Ortiz, head of Oncology, nutritionist María Silvia Capponi, and psychologist Jorgelina García.
Dr. Ortiz emphasized the importance of combating misinformation and myths surrounding the disease. She noted that while scientific advances aim to manage the condition as a chronic illness to extend life, early diagnosis remains critical. Dr. Ortiz also highlighted that breast cancer can affect men, noting that it is often more aggressive in males, which frequently leads to delayed diagnoses due to social taboos.
Additionally, a community walk is scheduled for the following Saturday, the 24th, to observe Pink Month.
