Breast cancer care expands through outreach and increased medical capacity
Healthcare initiatives and capacity expansions are addressing breast cancer care in Austria and Germany. In the Brigittenau district of Vienna, a mobile campaign titled ‘Breast Cancer Prevention Comes to the Neighborhood’ is running from September 11 to October 11, 2026. Utilizing a neighborhood bike and over 50 trained health ambassadors, the initiative provides multilingual and culturally sensitive information on early detection and mammography directly to residents at various local hubs.
In Hannover, Germany, the Medizinische Hochschule Hannover (MHH) is expanding its certified breast center to meet rising demand. The expansion includes increasing surgical capacity and hiring more medical staff. This move follows the relocation of the KRH Klinikum Siloah breast center, which will reduce the number of certified centers in Hannover from four to three. MHH reports a 25 percent annual increase in breast cancer surgeries since 2022, performing approximately 400 operations in 2024.
