Breast cancer care shifts toward rehabilitation and personalized treatment
Medical experts are highlighting new approaches to breast cancer care that prioritize patient quality of life and personalized treatment. In Venezuela, specialists from the Sociedad Anticancerosa de Venezuela emphasize the importance of early physical rehabilitation and occupational therapy. Dr. Ernesto Granda notes that integrating rehabilitation from the start allows for prehabilitation before surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, helping to mitigate fatigue, muscle loss, and joint stiffness.
In Argentina, medical advancements are moving toward a concept known as de-escalation. Federico Coló, director of the Mammary Center at the Instituto Alexander Fleming, explains that de-escalation aims to achieve the same oncological control with minimal intervention, such as less surgery or shorter treatment durations, to avoid overtreatment. This approach, combined with physical activity, seeks to reduce adverse effects and personalize care for the more than 20,000 new cases diagnosed annually in the country.
