Breast Cancer Detection Efforts Highlighted in Argentina and Colombia

In Argentina, breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death among women, with more than 22,000 new diagnoses and about 7,000 deaths each year. Early detection can cure over 90% of cases, and the International Day of Action for Women's Health was used to launch a new awareness index showing that only 40% of women feel adequately informed about breast health. The index also found that 57% are willing to change habits to reduce risk, though 42% could not name any healthy practices.

In Colombia’s Arauca department, the Special Administrative Health Unit reported 19 cases of breast and cervical cancer during the first 20 epidemiological weeks of 2026 – six breast and 13 cervical. This reflects a 38.5% rise compared with the same period in 2021. Cases were concentrated in the municipalities of Arauca and Tame. Health officials urged regular medical checks, cytology, mammography and self‑exams to enable timely diagnosis and treatment.
