Breast Cancer Network Australia releases film on survival realities

Breast Cancer Network Australia has released a short film titled ‘The Whole Story’ to highlight the often invisible challenges faced by survivors after completing medical treatment. The film, starring actress Brenna Harding, is inspired by the real-life experiences of survivor Bec Chan.

Set in a professional environment, the narrative depicts the disconnect between a survivor’s outward appearance and her internal struggles. While maintaining a composed exterior during a workplace interaction, the protagonist mentally grapples with issues including brain fog, financial instability, loss of libido, body image changes, and the persistent fear of cancer recurrence.

Statistics from the Breast Cancer Network Australia underscore the scale of these post-treatment issues: 86 per cent of survivors require financial assistance, 80.5 per cent need ongoing mental health support, and 71 per cent require assistance returning to work. The campaign aims to challenge the misconception that the struggle ends once clinical treatment is finished.
