Breast cancer: New AI tool predicts long-term recurrence risk

Researchers have developed a new artificial intelligence tool, IICM+, designed to improve the estimation of long-term recurrence risks in patients with early-stage hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative breast cancer. While existing tests like Oncotype DX are effective at predicting recurrence within the first five years, the IICM+ model aims to better identify patients at risk of distant recurrence occurring beyond that five-year window. The tool was developed using data from 2,808 patients involved in the TAILORx clinical study.

In Greece, approximately 9,000 new breast cancer diagnoses are recorded annually. To raise awareness, the 18th Greece Race for the Cure is being held in Athens, serving as one of Europe’s largest awareness events. The initiative supports prevention programs and patient services, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis and personalized therapies in improving survival rates.
