Breast cancer prevention and hormone therapy insights

Recent research and medical insights highlight the importance of lifestyle habits and hormone therapy in managing breast cancer. Studies conducted by the Institute of Cancer Research and Imperial College London, involving over 110,000 women, suggest that certain life stages are critical for establishing habits that influence cancer risk. Key factors such as body weight, physical activity, alcohol consumption, and smoking habits play a significant role in prevention.

In terms of treatment, hormone therapy remains a primary method for hormone-dependent breast cancers. This therapy works by either blocking estrogen receptors or reducing estrogen levels in the body to slow or inhibit tumor growth. Unlike hormone replacement therapy, which supplements hormone levels, breast cancer hormone therapy aims to limit the impact of hormones on cancer cells. Treatment can last between five to ten years, depending on the patient's menopausal status and the specific characteristics of the tumor.
