Breast cancer surgery advancements highlighted at Breastanbul Congress

At the Breastanbul Congress, medical experts discussed advancements in breast cancer treatment, specifically highlighting the shift toward minimally invasive procedures. Prof. Dr. Cihan Uras noted that robotic and endoscopic technologies now allow for breast cancer surgeries to be performed through incisions of approximately 3 cm, a significant reduction from the traditional 10 cm incisions.

The multidisciplinary event brought together over a thousand scientists and specialists covering fields such as radiology, pathology, genetics, and nursing. The congress serves as a platform for international experts to share research and establish new collaborations in breast cancer care.

In a broader context regarding breast cancer awareness, medical professionals emphasize that early diagnosis is critical. Risk factors include being female, advanced age, previous radiotherapy to the chest, and genetic mutations. While the disease is more common after age 40, it can affect younger women, with approximately 20% of diagnoses in Turkey occurring in individuals under 40.
