Breast cancer survival and post-treatment care

Breast cancer remains a significant health challenge, with the National Cancer Institute (Inca) estimating 78,610 new cases annually in Brazil between 2026 and 2028. The disease accounts for 30% of new cancer cases among women in the country.

Global data from the World Health Organization indicates improving survival rates, with 77.8% of women diagnosed between 2017 and 2021 reaching the five-year mark post-diagnosis, a figure that rises to 88.5% in the Americas. As more women enter remission, medical experts emphasize the need for integrated follow-up care.

Post-treatment recovery often involves managing fatigue, sleep disturbances, body composition changes, and hormonal shifts. Specialists note that remission does not mean a return to a pre-disease state, as treatments can leave lasting metabolic and nutritional impacts that require holistic medical attention.
