Breda police seek information in 24-year-old murder cold case

Police in Breda are renewing calls for information regarding the 2002 murder of 32-year-old Corné Baelemans. The victim was shot multiple times at a gas station on Haagweg on December 5, 2002, while waiting for a scheduled meeting with a drug dealer.

Despite an extensive investigation involving 15 officers and 34 witnesses, the shooter remains unidentified. A suspect was detained in 2004 but was released after three days, and no further arrests have been made in the 24 years since the incident.

Police spokesperson Dik Advocaat stated that investigators are still seeking clarity regarding the victim's movements and companions on the night of the killing. Evidence suggests the victim had multiple conflicts, meaning the motive and perpetrator could be linked to various sources. The victim's parents, Nell and Jos Baelemans, continue to seek answers for the unsolved crime.
