Bredene proposes ending recovery of care costs from children

The municipality of Bredene has proposed a policy change to stop recovering OCMW (Public Centre for Social Welfare) contributions for residential care costs from children with maintenance obligations. Currently, the OCMW can claim these costs back from the children of residents in care facilities.

If approved, the new policy would take effect on January 1, 2027. The proposal, led by Social Affairs Alderman Magali Vanhaeren, must still be approved by the Council for Social Welfare and the municipal council later this month. Until then, the OCMW will continue to recover these costs.
