Bregenzer Festspiele and Innsbruck Festival showcase major opera productions
The Bregenzer Festspiele has staged a production of Donizetti's 'L'elisir d'amore' at the Kornmarkttheater. Under the direction of artistic director Lilli Paasikivi, who has held the position since 2025, the production focused on emerging talent. Paasikivi personally conducted a masterclass for the selected soloists prior to the performance. The production utilized a concept that emphasized young singers, a strategy previously successful under former director Elisabeth Sobotka.
In Innsbruck, the early music festival celebrated its 50th anniversary with a major production of Antonio Cesti's 'Il Pomo d'Oro'. Directed by Ottavio Dantone, the performance spanned two evenings to accommodate the scale of the work, which originally served as a court spectacle for the wedding of Emperor Leopold I. The production featured the Accademia Bizantina and the vocal ensemble NovoCanto.
