Brežice Mayor Ivan Molan dismisses deputy mayor Mojca Florjanič

Ivan Molan, the mayor of Brežice, has dismissed deputy mayor Mojca Florjanič following her announcement that she will run for mayor in the upcoming local elections. Molan stated that the role of a deputy mayor is to assist the mayor, and therefore someone running against him cannot continue to serve as his ‘right hand.’

Molan claims that he had previously discussed the possibility of her candidacy with Florjanič in May, noting that while he did not object to her running, he had warned her that she could no longer hold the deputy position if she did.

Florjanič expressed surprise at the decision, particularly because it occurred almost immediately after her public announcement. She described her candidacy not as an opposition to the current administration, but as a way to provide a new vision for the municipality. She intends to run as an independent candidate. Currently, Molan and Florjanič are the only two individuals to have publicly announced their candidacies for the mayoralty in Brežice.
