Bremen Jobcenter fires director over €1 million creative‑room spend
The Bremen Jobcenter dismissed its director, Thorsten Spinn, after an investigation revealed that nearly €1 million was spent on a so‑called “creative‑room” furnished with designer furniture. An additional €293,000 was allocated to a project aimed at women in the labour market, bringing the total questionable expenditure to about €1.2 million.
The overseeing board, which includes representatives from the Jobcenter, the labour ministry and the finance ministry, said the spending was disproportionate and had eroded confidence in the management. State labour minister Claudia Schilling described the findings as a breach of trust. The board announced it will examine further organisational, personnel and budgetary measures and conduct a full inquiry into the matter.
