Bremen police rescue four chickens tied to balcony with cables
Police in Bremen, Germany, rescued four chickens—three hens and one rooster—after they were found tied to a third-floor balcony in the Osterholz district. A neighbor discovered the animals and alerted authorities after filming the scene.
The 30-year-old owner had used various materials to bind the chickens' legs to prevent them from escaping, including strings, ribbons, nylon cords, and USB cables. The restraints were so restrictive that the birds were partially entangled with one another and could barely move.
The animals were taken to a local animal shelter, where they are currently in quarantine. Shelter staff reported that while the chickens are eating and recovering, they still appear somewhat disoriented.
Police have filed criminal charges against the woman on suspicion of violating the Animal Welfare Act. Investigations into the circumstances of the animal husbandry are ongoing.
