Bremerhaven Maritime Tage attracts 330,000 visitors

The Maritime Tage festival in Bremerhaven attracted approximately 330,000 visitors to the New Harbor, the dike, and the Weser river between August 12 and 16. Despite high temperatures and a reduced event area due to infrastructure issues like the Grube-Kaje and a closed connection channel, Mayor Torsten Neuhoff described the five-day event as a peaceful and joyful celebration.

More than 40 vessels, including sailing ships, motorboats, and steamships, were featured. Notable participants included the Alexander von Humboldt 2, the Spanish traditional ship Nao Victoria, the former cargo sailing ship Pascual Flores, the fire ship Elbe 1, and the Schulschiff Deutschland. Approximately 20,000 people participated in the ‘Open Ship’ program, which allowed visitors to board various vessels.

Michael Gerber, Managing Director of Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH, addressed criticisms regarding the number of ships by noting that three large vessels had to cancel their participation due to shipyard requirements. However, he stated that all available quays were fully utilized. Plans are already being discussed for a ‘Lütte Sail’ to celebrate the city's anniversary in 2027.
