Brendan Sorsby expresses regret over gambling scandal in new documentary

Former Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has expressed “a ton of regret” regarding a gambling scandal that ended his college football career. Speaking in the Paramount+ documentary series “The Program,” Sorsby detailed his struggle with gambling addiction, noting that he felt a need to have “skin on the game” whenever watching sports.

Sorsby admitted to wagering on games while playing for Indiana and Cincinnati, including betting on his own team during his time with the Hoosiers. Despite significant financial gains after transferring to Texas Tech on a deal worth over $4 million, he continued to gamble to chase a “dopamine hit.” Court documents indicate he placed more than 9,000 bets totaling at least $90,000 during his college career.

Following the discovery of his actions, Sorsby entered a 30-day rehab facility in April. Although he briefly regained eligibility through a Texas state court ruling, he was ultimately ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA. While he was denied entry into the NFL this year, he remains eligible for the 2027 draft.
