Brendon McCullum defends Harry Brook’s captaincy

England coach Brendon McCullum has expressed support for Harry Brook’s leadership following the team’s failure to reach the final of the one-day international tri-series in Pakistan. Despite losing their opening three matches, England secured a 55-run consolation victory over Sri Lanka in Lahore.

McCullum praised Brook’s tactical awareness and intelligence, noting that the young captain has grown through the challenging assignment. The coach highlighted that Brook has earned the respect of the dressing room through his interactive leadership style.

England is now preparing for a white-ball tour of Australia in November as part of their 2027 ODI World Cup preparations. Jacob Bethell and Jofra Archer are expected to return to the squad, while Jos Buttler remains sidelined due to hamstring surgery.
